Garrett-Keyser-Butler CSD offers Japanese Exchange Program

An exchange program between Yamate High School in Yokohama, Japan, and Garrett High School in Garrett, Indiana provides a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a different culture while also sharing their own. The program is designed to promote cross-cultural understanding and build lasting friendships between the students from both schools.

Twenty-eight students from Japan visited Garrett High School and stayed with host families for two weeks in April. During their stay, the students have the opportunity to experience American life and learn about American customs and traditions. They also attend classes at Garrett High School and participate in various cultural exchange activities.

In August, a group of students from Garrett High School will have the opportunity to travel to Japan, and host families from Yamate High School will return the favor by allowing GHS students to stay in their homes. This will be an opportunity for Garrett students to experience Japanese culture and gain a deeper understanding of the country's customs, traditions, and way of life while also attending classes at Yamate High School.

The exchange program allows students from both schools to learn from each other and develop a global perspective. By sharing their cultures and experiences, they will build lasting friendships and create a more connected world. Overall, the high school Japanese exchange program between Yamate High School and Garrett High School is a valuable opportunity for students to expand their horizons and gain a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity.
